Understanding Facebook Ads Custom Conversions

Custom Conversions in Facebook Ads allow you to precisely determine which Facebook ads are recognized as converting specify custom parameters for everything you are monitoring on the web.

The Facebook Marketing API treats them as actions. But do not worry! With Dataslayer, you can include a custom fields feature that allows these actions to appear in your reports as if they were normal fields.

In this article you can learn how to use custom metrics in Looker Studio

Keep in mind that custom events are not available in our Facebook Ads connector. In the following FAQ you have more information about Custom Conversions and Custom Events

As each custom conversion has its own parameters, there may be cases where Dataslayer and Facebook Ads report your data differently:

The action count does not match actual activity

When you create a query to check the value of custom conversions for the values "Conversions received" and "Actions", you will not get the same data as the official console. This happens because "Conversions received" gives you the absolute count of instances when the pixel code was triggered on your website.

Tip to solve it: compare the conversion data obtained with Dataslayer with the data in the named conversion’s column in Facebook Ad Manager.

No "Custom Website Conversions" data is obtained

"Custom Website Conversions" is a separate event from "Custom Conversions", so to solve this issue you have to follow these steps:

Select any Facebook Ads query in your report.

Navigate to the sidebar, scroll down to the "Options". Then, in "Report time of action acts" select "Use conversion date" like in the image bellow.

Custom conversions aren’t showing in your query

You have to refresh your connection to pull the latest data following the steps mentioned in this article.

Also, note that this custom field function has a longer cache time than other fields. It may take some time for changes to appear after you refresh the field list or re-authenticate.

Remember that custom events are not available in our Facebook Ads connector. In the following FAQ you have more information about Custom Conversions and Custom Events
